A spiral bevel gear is a bevel gear with spiral teeth. Spiral bevel gear has spiral teeth that are cut in a spiral curve across the pitch cone. Spiral Bevel Gears are typically made from hardened steel. Spiral bevel gears also have larger load capabilities due to increased load sharing from more teeth in contact. A spiral bevel gear exerts more thrust force on bearings because of its ability to change the direction of thrust with the hand of the spiral and its rotation directions.
